Katy wanted to be the goddess, which I found entirely appropriate as she already embodied a radiance and beauty and kindness that was entirely enchanting.

For her island wedding, we decided on a heavy crinkled cotton gauze that was comfortable, stylish, and a great fit for her and her fiance’s casual ceremony.  The front of the dress was kept simple:  a surplice empire style with a cap sleeve and flowing skirt.  On the back I added a sweeping fall of flounces cascading from handmade silk flowers like waves, and we added leaves made of abalone shell, another small nod to the islands.  The movement, weight, and drama of these additions gave her the feeling of being dressed up;  it made this not just another dress, but truly her custom goddess gown.
